Using a Gateway Solo 2200 with a TV Screen
Composite Video contains the video information produced by the computer's video chipset, as well as the refresh and synchronization information needed to display the video image on the TV screen. The Composite Video port on the Gateway Solo 2200 allows to display its screen on a TV screen by connecting the portable to the TV using a standard video connecting cable. This document assumes the TV model supports Composite Video.
Configuring the Gateway Solo 2200
- Start the computer. As the computer boots up, press the appropriate key(s) to enter the CMOS or Main Setup menu.
- Across the top of the screen are five menus: Main, Advanced, Security, Power and Exit. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to make sure Main is highlighted at the top of the screen. At the Main menu, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Video Mode. Use the + key on the keyboard to change this setting to NTSC. Exit the Main Setup menu and save the changes. The computer reboots and enters Windows 95.
- At the Windows 95 Desktop, right click an open region on the desktop. Click the word Properties that appears on the menu.
- Across the top of the Display Properties screen are five tabs: Background, Screen Saver, Appearance, Refresh, and Settings. Click the Refresh tab to view this information.

Connecting the Gateway Solo 2200 to a TV
Make sure that the portable system and the TV monitor are powered off before connecting the devices. This should eliminate the possibility of electrical damage to either component.
- Using a standard video cable, plug one end of the cable into the Composite Video out jack on the Gateway Solo 2200. The yellow out jack is located on the right side of the system when looking at the portable computer from the front.
- Plug the other end of the video cable into the yellow Video In jack on the back of the TV. The yellow Video In jack is usually located beside the Audio in jack. Refer to the TV's Instruction manual for the location of the Video In jack. Note: If a VCR is connected to the Video In jack on the TV, disconnect it or use the Video In jack on the VCR.
- Power the TV monitor on. Change the channel to Video1 with the remote control or control panel for the TV.
Display the portables screen on the TV Screen
- Power on the Gateway Solo 2200 and enter Windows 95.
- At the Windows 95 Desktop screen, press the FN and the F3 keys at the same time to toggle between LCD and CRT. The portable's display appears on the TV screen. If the display appears distorted, use the TV's picture quality controls. Adjust the Brightness, sharpness, color and tint for the best text quality.
Note: Due to the current technology of Composite Video on portable systems, the output generated on the TV's screen is the final image displayed.
