Conditioning the Battery for Gateway Solo Series and Gateway Liberty Series Portable Computers
To improve performance of the battery, conditioning teaches the battery to hold its charge longer. By conditioning the battery increases the accuracy of battery gauging and extend the battery life.
Charging the battery
- Install the battery into the portable unit.
- Connect the AC adapter to the battery and plug the AC adapter to a wall outlet.
- Let the battery develop a full charge.
- For Gateway Solo 2200 and 2100 computers - While the battery charges, the battery charger light glows green, then the light goes off or disappears.
- For Gateway Solo and Gateway Liberty computers - While the battery charges, the battery charger light glows yellow, and when its fully charged, the light glows green.
Conditioning the battery
- Start the computer. As the computer boots up, press the appropriate keys to enter the CMOS or Main Setup menu. Set the battery performance to maximum by one of the following methods.
- For Gateway Solo 2200 and 2100 computers - At the Main Setup menu, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight Power at the top of the screen. At the Power menu, highlight Battery Low Suspend. By default, this setting is set to ON. Use the + key on the keyboard to change this setting to OFF. Exit the Main Setup menu and save the changes.
- For Gateway Solo and Gateway Liberty computers - At the Main Setup menu, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight Power Management, which appears on the right hand side of the screen. Press Enter to view the Power Management menu. Use the arrow keys to highlight User Settings-Battery and press Enter. At the User Settings Menu, use the arrow keys to highlight CPU Performance. By default, the power savings is set to Good. Use the arrow keys to change this setting to Maximum performance. Exit the Main Setup menu and save the changes.
- Remove the AC adapter from the Battery. Leave the computer on until the battery has depleted its energy or until the computer powers down by itself.
Note: Do not plug the AC adapter into the battery while the computer is on.
- It is recommended that you complete this entire procedure at least twice to make sure the battery is fully conditioned. Once you complete this procedure twice, conditioning the battery is complete.
Note: Your battery performance may vary, depending on Power Management settings and usage.
