Installing the Panasonic 4x External CD-ROM drivers

This document contains basic driver installation for the Panasonic 4x external CD-ROM. This document assumes that Cardsoft/Cardwiz is already loaded. If Cardsoft/Cardwiz is not loaded, the point enabler, provided with the Panasonic dirivers, is installed by default. The CD-ROM has a set of 4 DIP switches on the bottom of the drive. The default settings are:

#1 ON
#2 OFF
#3 ON
#4 OFF

With the DIP switches set to this configuration, the SCSI ID is 5 and the drive termination is turned ON. Without any other SCSI devices attached to the computer, this is the setting that should be used.

Windows® 95 Installation

  1. Power on the CD-ROM and attach the pigtail cable to the SCSI PCMCIA adapter.
  2. With Windows 95 running, insert the SCSI PCMCIA adapter into the PCMCIA slot of the computer.
  3. The New Hardware Found window appears. Select Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer and click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
  4. The Install From Disk window appears. Place the Panasonic 4x driver diskette into the A: drive and click the OK button. The necessary files are copied and the CD-ROM is recognized.
  5. To view the CD-ROMís properties, right click on the My Computer icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Click the word Properties that appears on the menu.
  6. Across the top of the System Properties window are four tabs: General, Device Manager, Hardware Profiles, and Performance. Click the Device Manager tab to view the information.
  7. In the upper left hand corner of Device Manager, by default, the View devices by type option is bulleted. From the list of devices previewed in the window, click once on the + symbol beside SCSI controllers, verify that the Panasonic KXLC002 device driver is listed. The installation is completed.

DOS and Windows® 3.x Installation

  1. Insert the Panasonic SCSI driver diskette into the A: drive. At a C:\>: prompt type:

    a:\INSTALL

    and press ENTER.

  2. An information screen appears. Once you read through the information, press the ENTER key on the keyboard to continue.
  3. The next screen displays an option to connect the CD-ROM drive to a PC card or SCSI board. Make sure PC Card is highlighted and press ENTER to continue.
  4. The default installation directory is C:\CDRM. Press ENTER to accept this directory and continue. A screen briefly shows the necessary files being copied to the hard drive.
  5. The next screen informs you of changes to the boot files. The CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT are modified and the previous files are backed up with the extension of .KME. Press ENTER to continue.
  6. The next screen shows the lines added to the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. These lines must follow the Cardsoft/Cardwiz lines in order for the CD-ROM to be recognized. Press ENTER to continue. The installation is complete.
  7. Remove the diskette and press ENTER to exit.
  8. The system must be rebooted for the CD-ROM drivers to load. The CD-ROM must be powered on and the SCSI PCMCIA adapter must be inserted before the system boots, for the CD-ROM to be recognized. If there are any difficulties, edit the README.TXT file in the C:\CDRM directory.

    These lines are added to the CONFIG.SYS

    DEVICE=C:\CDRM\ASPIFMGR.SYS /PORT=300
    DEVICE=C:\CDRM\KMECD.SYS /D:PCMCIACD
    LASTDRIVE=M

    This line is added to the AUTOEXEC.BAT

    C:\CDRM\MSCDEX.EXE /D:PCMCIACD

Note: The Panasonic external CD-ROM is assigned a drive letter after all other hard drives. If the Hard drive has more than one partition, the CD-ROM adjusts accordingly and uses the next drive letter available.
