Often Windows® 95 incorrectly detects a Cirrus Logic display adapter upon installation. The following steps explain how to change the video display driver within Windows 95. The only reasons you need to install these drivers are:
Since the Gateway Solo 2100 portable has an SVGA screen, the resolution must be set to at least 800x600 to avoid a virtual desktop effect.
- to make sure the correct video drivers are loaded,
- to make sure that two drivers are not trying to load at the same time, and
- to eliminate refresh and other display problems.
This section only pertains to new Windows 95 installation. The first two windows only appear if you remove the video from the device manager or install Windows 95 on a formatted hard drive.
- At the Windows 95 Desktop screen, a New Hardware window appears prompting that Windows 95 has detected an unknown device. A second New Hardware window prompts detecting the video as Cirrus Logic.
- At the System Setting Change window, a message appears prompting you to restart Windows 95. Click the Yes button to restart Windows 95. At the Windows 95 Desktop, right click the My Computer icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Click the word Properties that appears on the menu.
- Across the top of the System Properties screen are four tabs: General, Device Manager, Hardware Profiles, and Performance. Click the Device Manager tab to view this information.
- In the upper left hand corner of Device Manager, by default, the View devices by type option is bulleted. From the list of devices previewed in the window, click once on the + symbol beside Display Adapters. Click the icon labeled Cirrus Logic once to highlight it. On the lower bottom left hand corner of this window, click the Properties button.
- Across the top of the Cirrus Logic Properties screen are three tabs: General, Driver, and Resources. Click the Driver tab to view this information. Click the Change Driver button located on the lower right hand side of the window.
- In the Select Device window, click the Have Disk button located in the lower right hand corner.
- The Install From Disk window appears. In the box labeled Copy Manufacturers files from: type:
and click on the OK button located in the upper right hand corner of the window to continue.

- In the Filename: box, 7548.inf appears, click on the OK button located at the upper right hand corner of this window.
- At the Select Device window Cirrus Logic 7548 1.34 PCI (Cirrus) is the default choice. Click the OK button to continue. This returns you to the Change Driver window. Click the OK button at the bottom of this window to continue.
- The Cirrus Logic Properties window displays the Cirrus Logic 7548 driver files as they are copied to the hard drive. Click the OK button to accept the changes.
- At the System Setting Change window, a message appears prompting you to restart Windows 95. Click the Yes button to restart Windows 95. Once Windows 95 has restarted, the installation is complete.
