Installing Gateway SoloTM 2100 Series Portable PC Sound Drivers in Windows 95


This document contains the installation information for the sound card drivers on the Gateay Gateway Solo 2100 portable. Follow these steps if you need to reinstall the sound drivers. This installation assumes that the CD-ROM drive letter is D.
  1. At the Windows® 95 Desktop screen, right click the My Computer icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Click the word Properties on the menu that appears on the screen.
  2. Across the top of the System Properties window are four tabs: General, Device Manager, Hardware Profiles, and Performance. Click the Device Manager tab to view this information.
  3. In the upper left hand corner of Device Manager, the View devices by type option is bulleted by default. From the list of devices previewed in the window, click the + beside Sound, video and game controllers once. Double-click the word ESS ES1688 AudioDrive.
  4. Across the top of the ESS ES1688 AudioDrive Properties window, are three tabs: General, Driver, and Resources. Click the Driver tab to view this screen. Click the Change Driver button located in the lower left hand corner of this window.
  5. At the Select Device window, choose the Have Disk button located on the lower right side of the window.
  6. The Install From Disk window appears. In the box labeled Copy manufacturers files from: type:
    D:\WIN95DRV\AUDIO
    and click the OK button to continue.
  7. The ESS ES1888 PLUG AND PLAY AUDIODRIVE is the default selection at the Select Device window. Click the OK button on the bottom of this window. A copying window appears as files are copied to the hard drive.
  8. Once all driver files are copied, the ESS ES1688 AudioDrive Properties window appears with the proper driver files displayed. Click the OK button to continue.
  9. The System Properties window appears with the ESS ES1888 PLUG AND PLAY AUDIODRIVE listed under Sound, video and game controllers. Click the OK button to accept the new configuration.
  10. Click the Yes button to restart Windows 95 and allow the changes to take effect. Once Windows 95 restarts, the installation is complete.
