How To Add Icons to the Start Menu

This document gives a step by step instructions on how to add icons to the Start Menu. You can change the look of your Start Menu so that commonly used programs can be accessed quickly.

  1. Secondary-Click (this means use the right mouse button) on the Taskbar (the big gray bar on the bottom of the screen.)
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click the Start Menu Programs tab.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. This will bring up the Explorer, find the icon you want to add to the Start Menu on the right side of the screen.
  6. Click and drag it to the left side of the screen in the folder named Start Menu.

You can also select the item with the right mouse button, then click Copy. This will allow you to paste the item to another folder, while keeping the icon in its original place.

Another handy command is GRPCONV /S. This will re-create the original start menu from the factory. To do this follow these steps:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Run.
  3. Type in GRPCONV /S and press enter.
