How to Use the Modem Features of FaxWorks 3.0
This document contains a brief description of how to connect to an on-line service or with another modem through the FaxWorks 3.0 software. This document is not meant to replace your on-line help, only to assist you in learning the basics of this procedure.
FaxWorks Terminal
- From the Program Manager, double-click on the FaxWorks group. Once the group is open, double-click on the Communication Center. This opens the Call Center - Mailbox 1 window. This is the main screen for the FaxWorks program.
- On the right hand side of the screen, click on the button labeled Terminal. A black window appears in the center of your screen. Along the top edge of the screen are icons that contain information and functions of FaxWorks Terminal. As you move the mouse along this bar, smaller screens displaying the function of each icon will appear in the center of the screen.
- On the upper left corner of the black screen is a white blinking box. On your keyboard type:
Once you connect to the Gateway 2000 bulletin board, a message appears asking you to select a language. Press the 1 key and press Enter. You are now connected to the bulletin board. You may proceed by typing in NEW if you have never been on the bulletin board or type in your name and password if you have been on the bulletin board.

and press Enter to begin dialing the phone.
- After you have finished browsing on the bulletin board, follow the instructions on the screen to exit the bulletin board or click on the icon that looks like a hand hanging up a telephone at the top of the screen. Once you receive the message "No Carrier" you are ready to exit the FaxWorks Terminal or try connecting to another on-line service.
- To return to the Call Center, click on the telephone button at the upper left hand side of the screen or click on the word File, then click on Close Terminal.
Quick Dial Setup
Quick Dial Setup is used for saving settings of frequently used on-line services or modem to modem connections.
- From the Call Center - Mailbox 1 window, click on the button on the lower right hand side of the screen labeled Quick Dial Setup.
- When the Quick Dial Setup window appears, click one of the numbered tabs along the top of the screen. This allows you to set up a new modem connection. Under the heading Quick Button Type, make sure that the black dot is in the circle to the left of Data Dial.
- Fill in the boxes in the Information section of the screen. The Clear button will remove everything in the boxes. If you click on the Browse button, you can add or remove any of the settings to a phone book for the FaxWorks program.
- Once you have finished typing in the necessary information, click on the Quick Icon button on the upper right hand side of the window to select a unique icon for this entry. This makes it easier to remember what the individual buttons in the Call Center are for. Click on OK to return to the Call Center.
- Under the Quick Dial settings you should see the new icon button that you just selected. Click on that button to dial the modem.
