How to Install the STB S3 Trio 64 Video Drivers
This document contains the installation instructions for installing the STB S3 Trio 64 video drivers and configuring your monitor to work properly with these drivers.
DOS Installation Procedure:
- Insert the STB Trio64 Utilities diskette into the A: drive. At the A:\> prompt, type: stbsetup.exe and press Enter.
- The first screen contains information about the functions installation program performs. Once you have read this screen, press Enter to continue.
- he next screen will have two settings on it. Using the arrows on the keyboard, arrow down until Powergraph 64 Utilities is highlighted. Press the space bar to change the answer on the right hand side from NO to YES. Once this is completed press the Enter key to continue.
- The next screen prompts you for the directory for the video drivers. The default answer of C:\STBUTIL is fine. Press Enter to accept this answer.
- As the files are copied to the hard drive, the file names appear on the screen. Once the installation is complete, press Enter to return to the C:\> prompt.
Windows installation procedure:
- This installation procedure is done from inside Windows. Insert the diskette labeled STB Trio64 Vision Drivers for Windows into the A: drive. From the Program Manager, click on File, then click on Run. On the command line type: a:\setup.exe and press Enter.
- A screen titled STB Vision Installation Utility appears. The screen contains the driver version information. The default directory for the drivers to be installed to is C:\WINDOWS. Click on the OK button to accept this answer and proceed with the installation.
- The next window asks if you want to create a group in windows called STB Vision for all the video icons. Click on the YES button to continue with the installation.
- When the drivers are finished installing, a screen appears that gives you information about the installation. When you are finished reading the screen, click on the OK button for the group to be created.
- The final screen to appear tells you that Windows need to be restarted for the drivers to be successfully loaded. Click on the OK button to restart Windows. DO NOT PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart Windows.
- The STB Vision group contains all the icons for various features of the video card. The Help files contained within each icon are very good and contain all the information for you to use each of the features.
These are descriptions of the icons contained in the group:
Control Panel Contains the color selections and resolutions that are being used by the desktop and virtual desktop. Readme Contains release notes for the video card driver version. Help Contains hints and more complete information on the driver features. Multiple Desktop Contains settings for the virtual desktop features of the drivers. Zoom Allows you to get a close up view of specific areas of the desktop that you select. Birdís Eye Allows you to get a removed look at the entire area of the desktop.
Monitor configuration:
- From the C:> prompt outside of Windows, type: cd\stbutil and press Enter.
- At the C:\STBUTIL> prompt type: monitor and press Enter. A list of monitors appears on your screen. Once you find your monitor on the list, type that corresponding number and press Enter. Your monitor is now setup and synchronized with your video.
- If your monitor is not on the list of available monitors, at the C:\STBUTIL> prompt type: s3refresh and press Enter. This brings up a chart type screen where you can use your mouse to select your monitorís applicable refresh rates for each resolution. Once you have selected your refresh rates, press the ESC key or click on the word EXIT in the upper left-hand corner of the screen to exit out of the program.
- You need to reboot your system in order for the drivers to finish loading and for your monitor to properly synchronize with your video.
