The following chart contains the parameters for the IDE hard drives that Gateway 2000 has sold and is currently selling. If you are unsure which drive you have, you can determine the type by refering to your invoice and comparing it with the PART NUMBER column.

* These drives must have cylinders set to 1023 if the computer doesn't have LBA Translation.
If this 540MB hard drive is in anything but a Pentium or PCI local bus that has the capability to do Logical Block Addressing, make sure that you use the user defined setting in CMOS and set the cylinder to 1023 instead of 1048.** These drives can only be used in computers with LBA Translation.
All hard drives larger than 540 MB require an option in CMOS for LBA (Logical Block Addressing) to operate correctly. If you don't have this option in CMOS, the drive will not work in this machine.If you have any questions about discrepancies in the formatted size and the CMOS size of the hard drive, please contact the manufacturer.
