Which modem do I have?

The first place to look for the part number of your modem is your invoice. The part numbers in question are MODISA007AAUS, ABUS, and ACUS, and MODISA008AAUS, ABUS, and ACUS. No other modems are related to this issue. If you canít find your invoice, please send and Email to modems@gw2kbbs.com. Please include your customer ID and the serial number of your computer.

When will the x2 Technology upgrade be available for the TelePath 33.6 Data/14.4 Fax Modem for Windows (MODISA007AAUS, ABUS, ACUS)?

The x2 Technology upgrade is now available for the TelePath 33.6 Data/14.4 Fax Modem for Windows. Customers who have already purchased their system with the TelePath 33.6 Data/14.4 Fax Modem for Windows will be able to upgrade their current modem to x2 technology free of charge with the installation of this new software. The upgrade to x2 Technology is available on the BBS and from the Gateway 2000 web site.

What about upgrades for the TelePath 33.6 Data/14.4 Fax Modem (MODISA008AAUS, ABUS, ACUS)?

Since the TelePath 33.6 Data/14.4 Fax Modem is a controller-based modem, a hardware change would be required in order to upgrade to x2 Technology. After investigating the feasibility and cost of this upgrade option, it was determined that it was not the best solution for our customers because of the price of the part and the difficulty level of the installation. Instead, we have two options to allow customers with this Modem to upgrade to x2 Technology. Those two options are as follows:

Customers may purchase the TelePath Modem for Windows with x2 Technology at a price of $69. The TelePath Modem for Windows with x2 Technology is available now.
Customers may purchase the TelePath Modem with x2 Technology, which is a controller-based modem similar to the current TelePath 33.6 Data/14.4 Fax Modem, at a discounted price. Pricing has not been finalized at this time. The TelePath Modem with x2 Technology modem is expected to be available later this year.

Note: The first modem is a Windows modem and works only in a Windows environment, while the second modem works in MS-DOS-based programs and Windows programs.

To be eligible for the special price offers, customers will need to be qualified by an Add-Ons Sales Representative. To be qualified, a customer must have purchased the TelePath 33.6 Data/14.4 Fax Modem (MODISA008AAUS, ABUS, or ACUS) after August 1, 1996 through the present, in order to receive the discounted prices of the above modems.

Can I use the US Robotics retail x2 upgrade for the Sportster modem?

Since the TelePath 33.6 Data/14.4 Fax Modem is a Gateway-specific product, the retail upgrade for the Sportster product, priced at $60, will not work with the TelePath 33.6 Data/14.4 Fax Modem. We feel our two upgrade options outlined above provide a more cost-effective and better long-term solution for our customers than would an upgrade package similar to what is being used with the Sportster.
