Gateway 2000 named an Aetna Supplier of the Year

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., February 24, 1997 - Gateway 2000, Inc. (NYSE: GTW), a leading global marketer of personal computers, announced it was recently recognized as a "Supplier of the Year" by Aetna Inc. Gateway, a new supplier to Aetna in 1996, was reportedly selected based on multiple criteria including innovation, response time, quality of product and service, electronic order and invoice payment process, customer satisfaction, and contract quality.

According to Bernard Dowd, head of purchasing for Aetna, Gateway 2000 was selected as a "Supplier of the Year" based on their demonstration of excellent service and reasonable price. Dowd noted Gateway’s unique major account sales team structure provides superior performance, quick response to inquiries and proactive resolution of potential issues. "Gateway established a private World Wide Web page for Aetna on their web site, which provides the company with instantaneous pricing and order status information," said Dowd.

"This recognition by Aetna in our first year as their supplier is a great honor," said Bill Shea, vice-president of major accounts sales at Gateway 2000. "We make business decisions based on our values and what is right for the customer. The criteria for this award indicate that Aetna has many of the same philosophies as Gateway."

Aetna Inc., presented its 1996 Supplier of the Year Awards to Gateway on January 24, 1997 in Hartford, CT.
