Lightwave 4.0 Crashes When Loading a Scene
Modeler 4.0 Cannot Find Plugins

Problem: Under Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.51, newly installed LightWave, crashes on attempt to load a scene. Also, Modeler reports it cannot find plugins.

The user needs to "fix" the shortcuts to Lightwave and Modeler. Selecting "properties" for each shortcut or icon, you will see that the "start directory" is being set to "D:\NewTek\Programs" for each one. Changing the "start directory" setting to be just "D:\NewTek" will fix both of these problems. This may show up under Windows 95 as well. Naturally, "D:\NewTek" will differ, depending on where you have it installed on your system. Whatever it is, just delete the "\Programs" part, and all will be well again.
