SMC® PCI Network Card Detected as an ACCTON Network Adapter

Issue: The SMC PCI Network Cards, part numbers NETCMB003ABUS and NETCMB003AAWW, are detected as ACCTON network adapters.

Note: This issue may occur after NetWare's Client 32 is installed, but this has not been confirmed.

Resolution: Follow the steps below to identify the SMC card correctly.

  1. Right click on My Computer, and select Properties.
  2. Click on the Device Manager tab, and remove the ACCTON card from the Network Adapter section.
  3. Then from a DOS prompt, rename the files located in c:\windows\inf\ directory, ODINSUP.INF, ACC41.INF, PCI40.INF, and NETPCI.INF, to .OLD.
  4. Next, copy the NETPCI.INF file from the SMC PCI diskette to the c:\windows\inf\ directory.
  5. Windows® 95 will detect the network card as an SMC network adapter.
