Issue: Customers cannot recover the RUN MS-DOS APPLICATIONS icon if it is deleted from the Windows 95 Desktop.Resolution: Don't attempt to recover the icon. Recreate it.
FYI: To recreate the RUN MS-DOS APPLICATIONS icon, following these steps:
- Search for MOUSE.EXE on the hard drive. If it is not there, load the MSINPUT1.1 drivers, and perform a Custom Install. Load the MS-DOS® drivers.
- Search for ESSCFG.EXE and ESSVOL.EXE on the hard drive. If they are not there, load the drivers portion of the ESS AutoDrive diskettes. After these are loaded, remove the lines from the AUTOEXEC.BAT about ESSCFG.EXE and ESSVOL.EXE.
- Search for KMEATAPI.SYS on the hard drive. If it is not there, copy it from the Gateway System CD or the first Gateway Solo system diskette to the C:\CDROM directory on the hard drive.
- Search for NOTE.BAT in the C:\WINDOWS directory. It is not there, create one that contains:

@echo TO RETURN TO WINDOWS 95 TYPE "EXIT" AT THE COMMAND PROMPT.
- Right click on the desktop, highlight NEW, and then SHORTCUT. In the Command line, type C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM. Name the Shortcut RUN MS-DOS APPLICATIONS.
- Right click on the new shortcut, and highlight PROPERTIES. Click on the PROGRAM tab, and then on the batch file line, type C:\WINDOWS\NOTE.BAT.
- Click on the ADVANCED button. Put check marks in the boxes MS-DOS MODE and WARN BEFORE ENTERING MS-DOS MODE. Also, mark the option SPECIFY A NEW MS-DOS CONFIGURATION.
- In the box that says CONFIG.SYS FOR MS-DOS MODE type

- Click OK twice.
