Issue: When attempting to set up a system with an Aladdin or Zappa motherboard; a Vibra or Ensoniq Plug and Play card (part numbers SNDCRD005AAWW and SNDCRD006AAWW respectively) the Olicom Token Ring Network card (part number NETTKR001AAWW) and Windows® 95, the system shows a resource conflict between the Vibra or Ensoniq Plug and Play Card and the Olicom Token Ring Network Card.
Resolution: It is necessary to change the Olicom Token Ring Card from Legacy mode to Plug and Play Mode. This allows Windows 95 to reallocate resources to prevent conflicts with other peripherals. The following are the steps to change the Olicom Token Ring Card's mode.
- Click Start, then Shut Down.
- Choose Restart the Computer.
- When the message Starting Windows 95 is displayed, press the F8 key.
- Choose Safe Mode Command Prompt Only from the list of options.
- Insert the Olicom driver diskette after the system has booted to a C:\ prompt.
- Change to the A:\ drive, and type install.
- On the installation programís main screen, choose Hardware Configuration.
- From the Hardware Configuration screen, set the card to Plug-n-Play=On.
- Save and exit the configuration program.
- Remove the driver diskette, and allow the computer to reboot normally for the changes to take effect.
Note: When the Olicom card is set to Legacy mode, the default I/O address is 220. The Plug and Play sound cards Gateway sells, Ensoniq and Vibra 16, both use 220 as a power on default I/O address. Changing the Olicom card to Plug and Play will allow Windows 95 to reallocate the resources on the network card, and avoid the conflict.
