Issue: The Idlewild application loaded in Windows 95 does not autostart as a screen saver, despite the fact that it is in the Load= line in the WIN.INI file correctly or that it is open and minimized.Resolution: Idlewild applet was created in 1991 for Windows 3.0. Because of the design, there are some conflicts with newer operating systems such as Windows 95. Updates to Idlewild are not anticipated.
Idlewild can be run under Windows 95. Please review the notes below to help you understand the costs and benefits of running Idlewild under Windows 95.
In order to have Idlewild running properly, the 32-bit screen savers provided with Windows 95 or the Plus! Pack (if they purchased it elsewhere) must disabled and cannot be used.
If you want the 32-bit screen savers from Windows 95 or the Plus! Pack, Idlewild will not function.
If you do want Idlewild as the only screensaver, follow the steps below:
- Perform a search for all of the *.SCR files, and delete them from the hard drive.
- Extract the file SCRNSAVE.SCR off of the Windows 95 CD from WIN95_11.CAB file. Extract it to the c:\windows\system subdirectory. This file is the 16-bit screen saver from Windows 3.x.
- Verify that c:\wep, or whichever directory that Idlewild is installed in, is in the path of the system.
- Verify that the time on the blank screen saver (SCRNSAVE.SCR) file is set to the same time that Idlewild is set to. (i.e. one minute, etc.)
- Reboot the system. Idlewild will now be the active screen saver. Idlewild must be open or minimized for it to function properly.
