Issue: The Intel ICU version 1.44 for Windows locks the system going into Windows 95 when rebooting after the installation.Resolution: The new version of the ISA Configuration Utility (ICU) is a Windows 3.x version ONLY. There is no added benefit to using this version on a Windows 95 machine and it in fact creates multiple issues. To correct this issue, boot to a COMMAND PROMPT ONLY, and edit the CONFIG.SYS file to remove the DWCFGMG.SYS line. The lines added to the SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI files will also need to be removed.
Follow the steps below to correct this issue.
- Boot the system, and press F8 when system states "Starting Windows 95".
- Select the option Command Prompt Only.
- At the prompt, type Edit CONFIG.SYS.
- Search for the DWCFGMG.SYS line, and place a remark (REM) in front of it.
- Save the changes, and exit the CONFIG.SYS file.
- Change to the Windows directory, and type "Edit SYSTEM.INI".
In the [386Enh] section, remove the following 3 lines:
device=pccardrm.386
device=vcmd.386
device=vcad.386
- Save the file, and exit.
- At the prompt, type "Edit WIN.INI". Remove the following section
[Config MGR]
Installed=YES
- Save the file, and exit.
- After editing and saving the three files, reboot. The system will return to normal.
