Issue: Systems that are configured with a 2.5 GB Western Digital Hard Drive (part number HDDIDE018AAWW) may present an error message such as: cannot read from drive D or cannot open or find file necessary for this application. These errors occur when using applications that require the CD to be in the drive to function.Resolution: Because the hard drive is partitioned into two drives, the CD-ROM is now drive E rather than D. Some software may look for the CD on the D Drive.
Resolving this issue requires modifying the Windows 95 Registry.
- Choose START, RUN, and type in REGEDIT.
- Choose EDIT, FIND, and type in "D:\". Then click on FIND NEXT.
- When an entry is found, secondary click on the key, and choose modify.
- From the modify screen, change the "D:\" to "E:\". Leave the rest of the entry the same so that the path(s) is(are) not modified. Choose OK to save the changes.
- Hit Function key "F3" to find the next instance, and repeat steps 3 and 4.
- Continue these steps until the message "Finished searching registry" appears.
- Exit REGEDIT, and restart the system to make sure the changes take effect.
