If you have an Aladdin or Zappa motherboard and also have heavy network activity on your system, you may see the problem of the system refusing to go into sleep mode. This is caused by the network card using too many IRQs for the system to switch modes.
To resolve this issue you will need to update your system BIOS to the 1.00.11.BS0T or 1.00.10.BR0T version of the BIOS (depending on which system board you have). The file names are ZAPPB11.EXE and ALADD10.EXE.
Note: At this time the above BIOS revisions are unsupported by Gateway. Currently it is a "use at your own risk" endeavor. However, they are scheduled to be tested and supported in the near future.
Updating the BIOS:
- Reboot the system clean
If your system is running Windows 3.x and MS-DOS
When you see the message "Starting MS-DOS..." press the F5 key. This will boot the system clean.or
If your system is running Windows 95
When you see the message "Starting Windows 95..." press the F8 key. Then arrow down to "Safe mode command prompt only" and press Enter.
- Go to the directory you expanded the BIOS file to or put the diskette you expanded the BIOS file to in the A: drive and type A: and hit Enter.
- At the command prompt type the executable file name and press Enter.
The system will now begin to update the BIOS. After the BIOS is updated, the system will reboot with the new version.
Note: If you have a disk in the A: drive, be sure to remove it when the system is rebooting.
