Windows 3.x and MS-DOS driver installation instructions

The Windows and MS-DOS section of this document contains driver installation instructions for the 8x internal CD-ROM drivers. The only time these drivers need to be installed is if the hard drive is formatted, if the CD-ROM files become corrupt, if the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file is deleted, or if the CD-ROM driver directory is deleted.
  1. Insert the Gateway Solo 2200 Boot Disk, that was received with the computer into the A: drive. Exit Windows and reboot the computer or power the computer on. The system boots up to this diskette. A menu starts as shown below:

Windows 95 Installation

  1. The internal CD-ROM drives are ATAPI 1.2 compliant. This allows Windows 95 to detect the drive when the system is started. Drivers do not need to be installed to configure this drive in Windows 95.
  2. To view the drive properties, right click the My Computer icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Click the word Properties on the menu that appears on the screen.
  3. Across the top of the System Properties screen are four tabs: General, Device Manager, Hardware Profiles, and Performance. Click the Device Manager tab to view this information.
  4. In the upper left hand corner of Device Manager, by default, the View devices by type option is bulleted. From the list of devices previewed in the window, click once on the + symbol besides CDROM. The Teac CD-48E is shown as the installed CD-ROM drive.
