Installing LapLink 95 for Windows 95 Version 7.0

This document provides installation instructions for LapLink 95 for Windows® using Infrared devices only. These instructions assume that the CD-ROM drive letter is drive D:. Note: LapLink 6.0d can be used in conjunction with LapLink 95.

Special Instructions for Desktop systems

The 9-pin serial port is disabled through CMOS on Gateway desktops that ship with a modem. The default settings for most modems is COM 1, IRQ 4. The 9-pin port must be set to COM 2, IRQ 3 before configuring the desktop. For information on entering CMOS, consult the documentation that came with the system. Although COM 3 and COM 4 may be available, the possibility of interrupt conflicts must be considered. Consequently, set up the program at the defaults, and once it is operating properly, change settings as necessary.
  1. Reboot the computer, and enter CMOS. Locate the peripheral section concerning port setup. The first serial port should be set to COM 2. The second serial port is Disabled. Exit, and save any changes. The system reboots and enters Windows 95.
  2. Attach the Infrared module to the COM 2 port on back of the computer system. Turn the Infrared lens toward the location of the Infrared lens on the portable. Once this is complete, proceed to the "Installing LapLink 95 in Windows 95" section of this document.
