This document contains installation instructions for the IBM Token II 16/4 PCMCIA network card in Windows 95. Before configuring the network card, the parameters for sound located in CMOS need to be disabled. Once the network card is properly configured in Windows 95, the sound card can be re-enabled in CMOS. Note: Although parts of this document contain general information for connecting to a Peer-to-Peer workgroup, Windows NT Domain servers and Novell servers, specific network drivers or protocols must be provided by your network adminstrator.

Disabling the sound in CMOS

1. Press the FN and the Esc key at the same time to enter CMOS. At the Main Setup Menu, use the arrow keys to highlight the word, Port Assignment. Press ENTER to continue.

2. At the Port Assignment Menu, use the arrow keys to highlight the word, General Audio. Press the space bar to toggle from Enabled to Disabled.

3. Press the Esc key three times until a screen appears prompting you to save the changes. Press the F10 key to save the changes and restart the computer.

Windows 95 Installation

1. At the Windows 95 Desktop screen, insert the IBM Token II 16/4 PCMCIA network card in either the top or the bottom PCMCIA slot. As Windows 95 recognizes the card, the New Hardware Wizard starts. The New Hardware Found window appears followed by the IBM Token-Ring Credit Card Adapter II and compatible window. In the box labeled Value, click the down arrow to select the proper ring speed, 16 MBS or 4 MBS. Once a selection is made, click the OK button at the botton of this window to continue.

2. If the Windows 95 cabinet files are not loaded onto your hard drive, a Insert Disk window appears. Insert your Windows 95 CD-ROM, and press the OK button to continue. A Copying FIles window apears. In the Copy File From box, type:

   D:\WIN95

   and click OK button in the upper right hand side of the window. The Copying Files window reappears as the appropriate files are copied to the hard drive.

   After the system finishes copying files, the System Settings Change window appears. Click the Yes button to restart the computer. When the system reboots into Windows 95, the Enter Network Password screen appears. Click the Cancel button.

   Right click the My Computer icon, and click the word Properties from the pulldown menu.

   Across the top of the System Properties screen are four tabs: General, Device Manager, Hardware Profiles, and Performance. Click the Device Manager tab to view this information.

   In the upper left hand corner of Device Manager, by default, the View devices by type option is bulleted. From the list of devices previewed in the window, click once on the + symbol beside Network Adapters. Click the icon labeled IBM Token-Ring Credit Card Adapter II and compatibles.

   Click the Properties button at the bottom of the Device Manager window. The IBM Token-Ring Credit Card Adapter II and compatibles screen appears with two tabs at the top of the screen: General, and Resources. Click the General tab. In the Device Status box, a message should appear that states This device is working properly. The network card is functioning properly and the installation of the IBM Token II 16/4 PCMCIA network card is now complete. Proceed to the next section to re-enable the sound on the computer.

Enabling the sound in CMOS

1. Press the Fn key and the Esc key at the same time to enter CMOS. At the Main Setup Menu, use the arrow keys to highlight the word, Port Assignment. Press ENTER to continue.
2. At the Port Assignment Menu, use the arrow keys to highlight the word, General Audio. Press the space bar to toggle from Disabled to Enabled. Down arrow to Audio Base Port and press the space bar to toggle the address from 220h to 240h. Down arrow to PC Speaker Audio and press the space bar to toggle from Disabled to Enabled. Up arrow to Midi Port and press the space bar to toggle from Disabled to 330h.
3. Press the Esc key three times until a screen appears prompting you to save to discard the changes. Press the F10 key to save the changes and restart the computer.
4. Once you return to Windows 95, right click the My Computer icon, and choose Properties from the pulldown menu.
5. Across the top of the System Properties window are tabs: General, Device Manager, Hardware Profiles, and Performance. Click the Device Manager tab. From the list of devices previewed in the window, click once on the + symbol beside Sound, Video and Game controllers. Click the icon labeled ESS ES1688 Audio Drive.
6. Click on the Properties button at the bottom of the Device Manager window. At the ESS ES1688 Audio Drive window, in the Device usage section, place a check mark in the box labeled Undocked (Current), then click the OK button. In the Device Manager window, click the OK button at the bottom of this window. Note: If you computer has a docking bar attached during this installation, the option may read Docked (Current). In order to get sound enabled in Windows 95, you must shut the computer down completely and turn the system back on using the ON/OFF switch.

Connect to a Windows 95 Network

1. Right click on the Network Neighborhood icon, and click the word Properties from the pulldown menu.
2. Across the top of the Network window are three tabs: Configuration, Identification, and Access Control. Click the Identification tab. In the Computer Name box, type a unique name for your individual computer. In the Workgroup box, type the workgroup name or the workgroup you want to be a part of. In the Computer Description box, type a unique description that separates your computer from someone else’s computer name. Click the OK button at the bottom of this window to continue.
3. Double click the Network Neighborhood icon, this allows you to view and connect to other users on your workgroup. Note: IF your workgroup is not listed, double click the Entire Network to view all workstations and workgroups.

Connecting to a Windows NT Domain

1. Right click the Network Neighborhood icon, and choose Properties from the pulldown menu.
2. Across the top of the Network window are three tabs: Configuration, Identification, and Access Control. Click on the Configuration tab. In the box labeled, The following network components are installed, the following protocols are listed:

   Client for Microsoft Networks
   Client for Netware Networks
   IBM Token-Ring Credit Card Adapter II and compatibles
   IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol
   NetBEUI
   

3. In the box labeled, Primary Network Logon, click the down arrow to the right of this box. From the pulldown menu, click the Client for Microsoft Networks selection.
4. Click the File and Print Sharing button located in the lower center of the network window. A File and Print Sharing window appears.
   • If you want to share the files on your computer - Click the box beside I want to be able to give other access to my computer to place a check mark.
   • If you want to share your printer - Click the box beside I want to be able to allow others to print to my printers to place a check mark.
   Once you make your selections, click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
5. In the box labeled, The following network components are installed:, click once on Client for Microsoft Networks to highlight it. Click the Properties button located in the center right of this window.
6. The Client for Microsoft Network window appears. In the upper section labeled Logon validation, click the box beside Log on to NT Domain to place a check mark. In box labeled Windows NT Domain, type the name of the domain you are trying to connect to. Click the OK button at the bottom of this window. After returning to the Client for Microsoft Network screen, click the OK button at the bottom to continue.
7. If the Windows 95 cabinet files are not loaded onto your hard drive, an Insert Disk window appears. Insert your Windows 95 CD-ROM, and press the OK button to continue. Next, a Copying Files window appears. In the Copy File From box, type:

   D:\WIN95

   then click the OK button in the upper right hand side of the window. The Copying Files window re-appears displaying the appropriate files being copied to the hard drive.
8. The system asks to restart the computer. Click the Yes button to restart the system. As the computer restarts, the Enter Network Password screen appears. Enter a user name and password (if needed) to logon to the Network.
9. Once Windows 95 has finished booting, double click the Network Neighborhood Icon on the Windows 95 desktop to verify the system can see the server. Note: If your domain server is not listed, double click Entire Network to view all clients and servers.

Configuring Windows 95 to connect to a Novell server

1. Right click on Network Neighborhood, and choose Properties from the pulldown menu.
2. Across the top of the Network window are three tabs: Configuration, Identification, and Access Control. Click on the Configuration tab. In the box labeled, The following network components are installed, the following protocols are listed:

   Client for Microsoft Networks
   Client for Netware Networks
   IBM Token-Ring Credit Card Adapter II and compatibles
   IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol
   NetBEUI
   

3. In the box labeled Primary Network Logon, click the down arrow on the right hand side. From the pulldown menu, click the Client for Netware Networks selection.
4. Click the File and Print Sharing button located in the lower center of the network window. A File and Print Sharing window appears.
   • If you want to share the files on your computer - Click the box beside I want to be able to give other access to my computer to place a check mark.
   • If you want to share your printer - Click the box beside I want to be able to allow others to print to my printers to place a check mark.
   Once you make your selections, click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
5. In the box labeled The following network components are installed, click once on Client for Netware Networks to highlight it. Click the Properties button located in the center right of this window.
6. Across the top of the Client for Netware Network window are two tabs: Advanced and General. Click the General tab. In the box labeled Preferred server, type the name of the server you are trying to connect to. In the box labeled First network drive, type the drive letter used as a connection. Place a check in the box beside Enable logon script processing. Click the OK button twice.
7. If the Windows 95 cabinet files are not loaded onto your hard drive, an Insert Disk window appears. Insert your Windows 95 CD-ROM, and press the OK button to continue. Next, a Copying Files window appears. In the Copy File From box, type:

   D:\WIN95

   then click the OK button in the upper right hand side of the window. The Copying Files window re-appears displaying the appropriate files being copied to the hard drive.
8. The system asks to restart the computer. Click Yes to restart the system. As the computer restarts, the Enter Network Password screen will appear. Enter a user name and password (if needed) to logon to the Network.
9. Once Windows 95 has finished booting, double click the Network Neighborhood Icon on the Windows 95 desktop to verify the system can see other computers on the network.
