Running Hardball IV in Windows 95 with a Plug-n-Play Sound Card

This document describes how to configure the game Hardball 4 in Windows 95 with a Plug-n-Play sound card. Gateway 2000 currently carries 2 Plug-N-Play sound cards, the SoundBlaster Vibra 16 and the Ensoniq. Configuration problems with the game and both sound cards are covered below.


Sound Blaster Vibra 16

No problems have been found with this combination. The game loads and configures the sound card as a Sound Blaster 16 (16 bit Stereo) and also configures memory with very little user interaction.

The detection of the sound card was successful when tested; however, the correct settings may not always be detected. To ensure the correct setting, run the Detect Settings option under the SOUND/MUSIC setup. The options tested were:

The correct settings for the sound card can be found by:
  1. Opening the Control Panel,
  2. Double clicking System,
  3. Choose the Device Manager tab
  4. Choose the Sound, Video and Game controllers options.
  5. This will display the installed Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 Plug and Play.
  6. Click the Creative Labs Sound Blaster 16 Plug and Play, then click Properties.
  7. Click the Resources tab. This will display the settings for the card.
  8. Hardball IV can be modified to these settings by running the game and selecting SETUP then SOUND/MUSIC

Ensoniq Plug & Play Wavetable Sound Card

When running the game Hardball 4, by Accolade, in Windows 95 with the Ensoniq Plug & Play Wavetable Sound Card, the programís detection does not correctly configure the settings for the sound card.

Suggested Resolutions:

The correct settings for the sound card can be found by:

  1. Opening the Control Panel,
  2. Double clicking System,
  3. Choose the Device Manager tab
  4. Choose the Sound, Video and Game controllers options.
  5. Two options are displayed: the Soundscape Plug and Play and Soundscape Plug and Play Sound Blaster Emulation.
  6. Click the Soundscape Plug and Play, then click Properties.
  7. Click the Resources tab. This will display some of the settings for the card.
  8. Write down the settings on a sheet of paper, close the Property sheet. This will return you to the Device Manager.
  9. Click Soundscape Plug and Play Sound Blaster Emulation, then click Properties.
  10. Click the Resources tab. This will display the rest of the settings for the card.
  11. Hardball IV can be modified to these settings by running the game and selecting SETUP then SOUND/MUSIC
