Setting Up An Ensoniq Sound Card in Windows 3.x and MS-DOS
This document contains installation instructions for Ensoniq sound cards in Windows 3.x and MS-DOS. This document IS NOT for use with sound cards with the following part numbers: 600056, sndcrd010aaww, and sndcrd006adww. The part number for the sound card is located on the invoice you received with the computer or with the sound card if it was purchased through Add-On sales.
This document assumes that you have the Ensoniq Installation Wizard version 1.00.07. If you do not have this file, you can download it from the Gateway 2000 Bulletin Board Service by dialing 605-232-2224 or from the Gateway 2000 WEB site at WWW.GW2K.COM. The file you need is ENWIZ3X.EXE. This is a self-extracting file and contains a Read.me file for more information about this file. Please note that when using the Ensoniq Installation Wizard, the Intel ISA Configuration Utility DOES NOT need to be loaded separately. Any necessary ICU files are installed by the Wizard. The only time you need to install these drivers is:
- if the hard drive is formatted,
- if the sound card’s files become corrupt,
- if the AUTOEXEC.BAT or SYSTEM.INI file is deleted,
- if Windows 3.x is deleted and re-installed, or
- if the sound card’s driver directory is deleted.
These instructions assume the CD-ROM drive is D:, the 3 ˝ inch floppy drive is A: and the hard drive is C:. This document assumes that the Ensoniq sound card is physically installed in the computer.
Extracting the ENWIZ3X.EXE file
First, connect to Gateway’s BBS at 605-232-2224 or Gateway’s WEB site at WWW.GW2K.COM with your modem software. Download the file ENWIZ3X.EXE onto your hard drive. Once you finish downloading the file, exit the modem software. If you are in Windows, exit Windows completely. When the DOS prompt appears, type:
