How to Install the Gateway 2000 Information Highway CD and Online Applications in Windows 3.X

This document contains installation instructions for the Gateway 2000 Information Highway CD. This document assumes that the CD-ROM drive letter is D:. This program is installed and run through Windows 3.x. The Gateway 2000 InfoHighway program must be installed before any of the other applications are installed. Reuters Money Network, America Online, CompuServe, Prodigy and Global Network Navigator are installed through the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway main menu.

Information Highway Installation Instructions

  1. Insert the Gateway 2000 Information Highway CD in the CD-ROM drive. From the Program Manager, click on the word File, then click on Run. In the Command Line box, type:

    d:\setup

    and click on the OK button to continue.
  2. The Install Options window appears in the center of the screen. Make sure Run program from CD is selected and click the OK button. The screen will briefly flash to the Program Manager as the group and icons are created.
  3. The next window prompts you to install Video for Windows. Click the Yes button to continue. An hour glass will appear on the screen followed by the Microsoft Video for Windows Setup window. Once you read the information on the screen, click the Continue button. A percentage bar appears in the center of the screen as the files are copied to the hard drive.
  4. The Setup Successful windows appears next. Click on the Restart Now button to restart Windows and finish the installation process.
  5. To begin the program, double click on the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD group in the Program Manager. Make sure the Information Highway CD is in the CD-ROM drive. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD icon to start the application.


FaxWorks

  1. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD group in the Program Manager. Make sure the Information Highway CD is in the CD-ROM drive. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD icon to start the application.
  2. Double click on the FaxWorks sign in the upper right hand side of the main InfoHighway screen. From the FaxWorks window, click on the Launch option on the left hand side of the screen. After a Few moments, the FaxWorks Setup window appears on the screen.
  3. For complete instructions on installing FaxWorks, consult document 1937. For complete instructions on using the faxing and modem connection features of FaxWorks consult documents 1938 and 1939.


Reuters Money Network

  1. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD group in the Program Manager. Make sure the Information Highway CD is in the CD-ROM drive. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD icon to start the application.
  2. Double click on the Reuters Money Network sign in the upper right hand side of the main InfoHighway screen. From the Reuters Money Network window, click on the Launch option on the left hand side of the screen. After a few moments the Reuters Money Network Setup window appears on the screen. Click the OK button to continue.
  3. The Custom Installation window appears in the center of the screen. C:\MONEYNET appears as the destination directory and all of the installation options are selected. Click on the Install button to continue. A percentage bar appears on the lower right side of the screen as the software installs to the hard drive.
  4. The How Shall We Handle It? Window appears next. Once you read this information and make sure the Go ahead and modify selection is made, click the OK button to continue. The next screen prompts you for the location of C:\CONFIG.SYS for file modification. Click OK to accept this answer and continue.
  5. The Installation Complete window appears next. Click the Return to Windows button to complete the installation. The Reuters Money Network screen will appear. Click the Main Menu bar on the bottom left side of the screen to return to the InfoHighway window.
  6. To access Reuters Money Network, double click the Reality Online group in the Program Manager. Double click the Reuters Money Network icon to begin the application.

America Online

  1. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD group in the Program Manager. Make sure the Information Highway CD is in the CD-ROM drive. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD icon to start the application.
  2. Double click the America Online sign on the right hand side of the main InfoHighway screen. From the America Online screen, click the Launch option on the left hand side of the screen.
  3. The America Online 2.5 Setup screen will appear and briefly check the directory structure of the hard drive. The program briefly search for the modem in the computer. On the Welcome screen, click the Install button to continue.
  4. As the software copies to the hard drive, a percentage bar is displayed in the center of the screen. The Setup window appears next. Click the OK button to start America Online. Once you read the information on the screen, click the OK button.
  5. Once you read through the information on the screen click the OK button to dial the modem and connect to America Online.
  6. To access this program, double click the America Online group in the Program Manager. Double click the America Online icon to run the program.

CompuServe

  1. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD group in the Program Manager. Make sure the Information Highway CD is in the CD-ROM drive. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD icon to start the application.
  2. Double click the CompuServe sign on the right hand side of the main InfoHighway screen. From the CompuServe window, click the Launch option on the left hand side of the screen.
  3. The Installing WinCIM screen appears. Click on OK to accept the default directory of C:\CSERVE for the software installation.
  4. The Sound Support screen prompts you to install sounds for the software. Click the Yes button to accept this answer. The Signup Files window prompts you to copy Signup files to the hard drive. Click the Yes button to continue. A percentage bar appears in the center of the screen as the files copy to the hard drive.
  5. The next screen asks you whether you want to sign up a new membership. Click the button of your choice to continue.
  6. To access this program, double click the CompuServe group in the Program Manager. Double click the CompuServe Information Manager icon to start the application.

Prodigy

  1. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD group in the Program Manager. Make sure the Information Highway CD is in the CD-ROM drive. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD icon to start the application.
  2. Double click the Prodigy sign on the right hand side of the main InfoHighway screen. From the Prodigy window, click the Launch option on the left hand side of the screen to install the program.
  3. The Prodigy Service window appears on the screen. Once you read the information on the screen, click the OK button to accept the default installation directory of C:\PRODIGY for the software.
  4. The Modem Search window appears. Once you read through the information, click on the Search button to continue. A window appears containing the COM port location of the modem. Click the OK button to continue.
  5. As the software copies to the hard drive, a percentage bar appears on the screen. The final screen informs you that the installation is complete. Click the OK button to return to Windows.
  6. To access this program, double click the Prodigy Software group in the Program Manager. Double click the Prodigy software for Windows icon to start the application.

Global Network Navigator

  1. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD group in the Program Manager. Make sure the Information Highway CD is in the CD-ROM drive. Double click the Gateway 2000 InfoHighway CD icon to start the application.
  2. Double click the Global Network Navigator on the right hand side of the main InfoHighway screen. From the Global Network Navigator screen, click the Launch option on the left hand side of the screen to install the program.
  3. The GNN for Windows screen appears. The software will briefly search for the modem. On the Welcome window, click the Install button to continue. As the files are copied to the hard drive, a percentage bar will appear in the center of the screen.
  4. The Setup window appears on the screen next. Once you read the information on the screen, click the OK button to return to the installation program.
  5. To access this program, double click the Global Network Navigator group in the Program Manager. Double click the GNN connect icon to start the application.
