How to Install the LMSI Double Speed CD-ROM and Gateway 16MVL Sound Card Drivers

This document describes how to load the drivers for the 16MVL sound card and the LMSI CD-ROM drive. The only time these drivers need to be loaded is if the hard drive was formatted, if the AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, the WIN.INI, or the SYSTEM.INI files were damaged or deleted, or if it is an Add-On Component. Follow these steps any time you need to reinstall the drivers.

Driver installation:

  1. Before beginning installation of these drivers, you must first boot clean. If you do not know how to boot clean see the document, "How to Boot Clean."
  2. Once you have booted clean, place the diskette labeled Media Vision Jazz 16/LMSI Install/Utilities/Driver into drive A: (or applicable drive). Type in A: and press Enter. At the A:\> prompt type:
    install

and press Enter to continue with the installation.
  3. The first screen is titled Jazz Quick Start Installation. With the arrow keys on the keyboard, highlight Install Software and Setup Hardware and press Enter.
  4. This screen prompts you for the destination directory. The default answer is C:\JAZZ. Press Enter to accept this default and continue.
  5. Another window will appear and ask you if you have Windows 3.1 on your system. Press the Y key on the keyboard and press Enter to continue.
  6. The next screen will ask you to type in the directory that windows is installed in. The default is C:\WINDOWS. (If Windows is at a different location, make the modification here.) Press Enter to continue. Setup will then begin copying files and take you into another screen which contains the settings for the sound card and CD-ROM drive.
  7. The default settings on this screen should be OK. At the bottom of the screen it asks you to modify the C:\DOS system files and the C:\WINDOWS system files. The default answers for both are yes. Press Enter to continue.
  8. Once the installation is complete, you will be prompted to press F3 to exit setup. Remove the diskette from the drive and reboot the system for the driver installation to be complete. This installation also loads the drivers for the LMSI CD-ROM.
