How to Install and Use the Gateway Media Sampler

This document covers the installation of the Gateway Media Sampler that is found on Gateway 2000 System CD version 3.5 and above. It may have been installed on your original system. If you need to reinstall it at any time, please follow these steps.

Installation Procedure:

  1. To install the Gateway Media Sampler, insert the Gateway 2000 System CD and open Windows. From the Program Manager, click on FILE, then RUN, and type:

    d:\gwmmedia.setup.exe

    and press ENTER or click on OK.

  2. The files will be copied to the hard drive. When the installation is complete, a box with SYSTEM CD MEDIA SAMPLER Installation is Complete! appears on the screen. Click on OK. The icons SYSTEM CD, MEDIA SAMPLER and Help File: CDMEDIA.HLP will be created and put into a group window called SYSTEM CD MEDIA SAMPLER.

How to Use the Gateway Media Sampler:

  1. To use the Media Sampler, double click on the SYSTEM CD MEDIA SAMPLER group. To access files off the System CD, click on the down arrow and click on the drive that your CD-ROM is using. When you click on the CD-ROM Drive, the screen displays the directories on the System CD.

  2. To look at a picture, click on the PICTURES box, scroll up or down to find the GALLERY subdirectory and double click on it. The files with a .bmp extension will appear in the bottom box. Highlight the .bmp file you want to view and click on View Picture. The picture will be displayed in the box on the right.

  3. To View a Video Clip, click on the VIDEO button. Find and double-click on the SAMPLE directory, double-click on VIDEO, then double-click on GWVIDEOS and files with an .avi will be displayed in the bottom box. Highlight one of the files and click on Play Video and a Video will be displayed in the screen at the right. You will also hear sound from the Video if there is a Sound Card installed. Click on Stop to End the Video.

  4. To play wave files, click on the SOUNDS button, find and double-click on the SAMPLES directory, double-click on MUSIC, double-click on WAV, double-click on 11m8.wav or one of the other directories within WAV, and .wav files will be displayed in the lower box. To play the .wav file, highlight the file and click on Play Sound. The sound should be heard from the PC speaker if there is a PC Speaker driver installed, or from the Speakers if there is a Sound Card installed.

  5. To hear Midi Sounds, click on the Midi button, double-click on the MUSIC directory, double-click on Midi_1, and .mid files will appear in the bottom box. Highlight the .mid file you want to play and click on Play MIDI. A Sound Card has to be installed to hear these sounds. There are also more files under the BED and IN subdirectories.
