Gateway 2000 adds docking station to Gateway Solo Multimedia notebook line

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., February 28, 1997 - Gateway 2000, Inc., today expanded its mobile product family with the introduction of the Gateway Solo™ Docking Station, a complete docking solution for PC users who require the expansion and functionality of a desktop with the portability of a notebook. The full docking station, available now, joins the current Gateway Solo Mini-Docking Station to offer more options to Gateway Solo notebook owners.

The Gateway Solo Docking Station enhances the award-winning Gateway Solo notebook line, and follows the company’s build-to-order business model. Consumers can custom-configure their Gateway Solo Docking Station with a variety of available options to most effectively suit their needs. Gateway will factory install all of the optional hardware and software drivers purchased with the Gateway Solo Docking Station at no additional charge.

Gateway’s current and future portable PCs are expected to be compatible with the Gateway Solo Docking Station. "We recognize the high rate of change in the industry. The Gateway Solo Docking Station provides investment protection for technology purchases and helps provide complete, long-term PC solutions to our users," said Dave Berger, director of product marketing for Gateway’s Americas region.

The Gateway Solo Docking Station standard configuration starts at $599 and includes two dual PCI/ISA slots, modular option bay which can house the floppy disk drive from the Gateway Solo notebook line, removable monitor stand, two PC Card slots and internal stereo speakers. The docking station also includes a 5.25" expansion bay.
