NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., January 8, 1997 - Gateway 2000® , Inc., today announced the addition of the Intel Pentium processor with MMX technology to the Destination Big-Screen PC line. Beginning today, the Destination Big Screen PC with 166MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology starts at $2,999. Destination systems are also available with 200MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology or Pentium Pro processors.

The Destination Big Screen PC is Gateway's revolutionary convergence product, the first in the industry. It combines a multimedia PC with TV functionality viewed on a 31" monitor. "The Destination system established the Big Screen PC category, so it's natural that it be the first convergence product to feature MMX. The Destination system continues to evolve as the ultimate multimedia platform at an attractive price point," said Dave Berger, director of Americas product marketing for Gateway 2000.

Gateway 2000's direct business model allows consumers to custom configure their Destination systems with a number of available options. The D5-166 Destination Big Screen PC includes the 166MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 31" VGA monitor, wireless keyboard and Field Mouse® remote, 32Mb RAM, 2.5 GB hard drive, Telepath® 33.6* fax/modem for Windows, 8X CD-ROM drive, and Microsoft Windows 95 for $2,999. Other examples of Destination systems include the D5-200, with a 200MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology for $3,899, and the D6-200, featuring the 200MHz Pentium Pro Processor for $4,199.
