Gateway 2000 announces support for x2 Technology from U.S. Robotics


NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D., March 21, 1997 - Gateway 2000, a leading direct marketer of personal computers, today announced support for high speed modems using x2 Technology from U.S. Robotics (Nasdaq: USRX). Gateway 2000 expects to begin shipping desktop systems featuring modems with x2 Technology in April.

Gateway noted that its most popular modem shipped today - the TelePathTM modem for Windows - can be upgraded to x2 Technology performance with the addition of new software which is expected to be available next month at a minimal charge for Gateway customers.

Hundreds of Internet Service Providers, including America Online, CompuServe, MindSpring, NETCOM, Prodigy and Web America have committed to supporting x2 Technology to enhance their online service delivery. The U.S. Robotics x2 Technology allows Internet users to download information at up to the fastest rates approved for use over a standard public switched telephone network.
