The Gateway Solo 2200 notebook adds high-performance features that complement the Gateway Solo 2100 system introduced in June 1996, including the 166MHz Intel Pentium processor with MMX technology. The Gateway Solo 2200 notebook brings to market performance features such as 12.1" active matrix SVGA color display, 64-bit video with 2MB of EDO VRAM, wavetable audio, internal modular 8X CD-ROM drive, and NTSC/PAL video output. "The Gateway Solo 2200 system with the 166MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology is one of the fastest, most feature-packed notebooks on the planet," said Bob Spears, senior vice-president of Gateway's Americas region. "And our build to order capability allows consumers to choose the combination of technologies that best suits their unique needs. It's personalized mobile technology at its finest."
The Gateway Solo 2200 notebook also shares modular components with the Gateway Solo 2100 notebook, including batteries, hard drives, power supplies, CD-ROM drives, and docking stations. "The modularity of our portable line provides our corporate customers with longer product life cycles, easier upgrades and is a key element in reducing total cost of ownership," said Jim Collas, senior vice-president of Gateway's global products organization.
The Gateway Solo line starts at $2,299. Pentium processors with MMX technology are available on both Gateway Solo notebook platforms. The Gateway Solo 2200 Best Buy configuration includes the Intel 166MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 12.1" active matrix SVGA color display, 80 MB RAM, 2GB hard drive, modular floppy drive, modular 8X CD-ROM, lithium ion battery and AC cube, 28.8 PCMCIA fax/modem card, Microsoft Office 95, with a free upgrade to Microsoft Office 97, and Microsoft Windows 95 and is priced at $5,399.
